Quote: "Better than a thousand hollow words is one word that brings peace."
-Buddha

What this quote means is, one word that can cause peace is more powerful than thousands of words that mean nothing. For example little Suzy ate Bobs sandwhich. Bob is mad at Suzy for eating his sandwhich. Suzy tells bob that she was hungry and said sorry in a nasty way. Even though she apologized, the word has no meaning because it is not sincere. If Suzy were to be sincere about the sorry and maybe offer Bob another sandwhich tomorrow, there could be peace between the two and Bob would have forgave Suzy.

This means that you mmust find your inner peace from within and that you shouldn't look elsewhere for it.

“There is no way to peace, peace is the way.”-A.J. Muste (thinkexist.com) This qoute is a great example on how peace is not a "state" but a way of life. This qoute also reveals that enable to have peace you have to live peacfully. If we live life with greif and torrment, it is impossible to obtain peace. Peace is what we need to accomplish. It's what everybody wants but can not obtain. Peace is we must live by. Peace is in everybody, we just have to unlock it within ourselves to grasp the full meaning of it. Peace is something you make something you do and something you live by.

"Peace is not the absence of coflict, but the ability to cope with it." - Unknown [This quote means that there will always be conflicting issues and only through how we deal with our everyday problems can we find true peace]
Avoiding every problem is impossible. Eventually you will have to face them head on. Once you have effaced your issues, can you truly fin an inner sanctuary. It's not entirely about facing your problems but infact how you deal with them. If somebody were to start an argument with you, sure you could argue back with yelling and make matters worse, or you could try and calm this person down. Understand their side of the story and try to explain yours, peacefully. There's enough violence in this world alone. We don't need to add to it. - Peyton Taylor

“Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to cope with it."~Unknown Author. (thinkexist.com) This quote means that even though there are wars occuring now, we can still find our own peace. As an individual in an immense world, it would be difficult to end a war all on your own. But reassuring yourself and dealing with the problem in your own way can resolve your personal problems. If everyone had respect then I think there would be no wars, or conflicts, or arguments. But even thought sometimes you might not feel strong enough to handle it, remember that everyone is equal and you are no better than anyone else. Someone once said that you can't get ahead while you are busy getting even. This is true and it relates to peace because everyone is the same in the sight of God. If people are disrespected then more conflicts occur. Do your part and respect others so you can stop just one fight. Stopping one is better that stopping none at all.~Michelle Ketchum

@AntwonMcCloud- The reflection on your quote is only one sentence, it isn't cited, and some words were misspelled. Other than that I like your quote. Do you really think that peace comes within or is it something that you need to find? I think that you can find peace through personal reflection and deep thought.

"Peacefulness is an inner sense of calm - it comes from becoming still - in
order to reflect and meditate on our inner wisdom and receive answers. A
peaceful heart is one that is free from worry and trouble. It's becoming quiet
so we can look at things quietly so we can more clearly understand them and
thus come up with creative solutions. It is learning to live in the present."
http://www.inspirational-quotations.com/peace-quotes.html
This quote explains that peace can be achieved through a senese of calm. Urgency cannot help a peson find peace. We need to find a way to be free from worry or trouble. It is necessary to prevent frivilous things from occupying our mind and changing our goals. Living in the present is also important because it helps us to not worry about the past or the future. It is the ability to understand what is most important.

This means, to me, that though everyone looks and acts in different ways; we're much more alike than we seem. And before we go out and judge people by their looks, the way they act or talk, just remember that we're much alike than not. That everyone has feelings (unless they're robots). And we should, and have to, treat everyone the way we would want to be treated. We aren't thet different than everyone else, and we shouldn't pretend that we're any better than they are. To me, peace is equality. Everyone should be treated eqaully. No one is more special, or less, because of the color of their skin, or of the race that they come from, or even who your friends are. Because we are all the same, we are human, we feel and we need, we can't pretend that we don't, and we shouldn't make fun of people who do -- then we'd be a hypocrite. Lets just be strangers, and start from a clean slate.
@Daryl-Cute quote. But can you expand more on why there would be peace between Bob and Suzy?

Daryl Nakamoto said...

@Antwon your reasoning is only one sentence... Personally I think this quote means finding peace without fully understand it is futile. Don't you?

Quote: “Each one has to find his peace from within. And peace to be real must be unaffected by outside circumstances.”

This quote was said by Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for non-violence, civil rights and freedom across the world. He is internationally recognized for nonviolent protest. I think the quote that he said means that you find peace from inside yourself. Also for their to be peace it can't be affected by other things. That made me think of the Fifth Book Of Peace. The 4 previous books of peace got affected by outside circumstances. The outside circumstances was fire and the books burned, so there never was peace. Also to find peace within, you have to not let your-self go to the non-confrontational way. You must also work on yourself being peaceful and not others around you being peaceful.

Hafsat Abiola has recieved many awards. The awards she's recieved include the Youth Peace and Justice Award, the State of the World Forum’s Change maker Award, and the World Economic Forum’s Global Leader of Tomorrow Award. I think that her quote means that everyone has to find the peace within themselves before there can be a world peace. Once everyone has found that peace within themselves they have to contribute that peace to making world peace. World peace cannot be established by just a group of people. It has to be established by everyone and everyone has to give their best. Without everyone contributing to world peace it cannot be achieved.

" An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" Ghandi.
This quote means that seeking revenge never solves anything.Revenge makes nothing right in the end. It also leaves more bad feelings behind.everyone makes mistakes that is why it is important to forgive. If no one forgave each other it would be a very horrible cruel world. Everyone would be selfish and unhappy. Forgiveness is a big part of peace. It is being able to look past those who have wronged you. One of the very crucial steps to obtain peace is through forgiveness. Revenge will only end up making the whole world blind.

@Maggie Chen, your quote is inspiration and explanation does have meaning but are you sure it relates to peace? It seems that you are saying we should not judge people by first impressions instead of relating it to peace. Are you saying that if we accept everyone for who they are then there will be peace in the world?

“Nothing can bring you peace but yourself.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

This is a great quote on finding peace. Peace can't be bought from a store or learned it in a class. Your friend may try and show you what peace is but you can't actually be at peace unless you chooses to be. Peace isn't a magical thing that appears overnight. It is a conscious choice that has to be made for ones self. No one can be walked through peace but instead needs to go ahead and try for themselves. Peace isn't an easy choice. Everyone has to come up with their own reason for needing peace or else peace becomes irrelevant and loses its meaning. If peace is irrelevant than you won't choose to learn and except peace. If that doesn't happen then one hasn't found peace. This is why the only one that can bring one peace is oneself.
I hope this made sense.

I really like that quote. Great background information on Hafsat Abiola. Good research and information about the different awards that Abiola received. Also, good interpretation of quote. Even though world peace cannot be established by a group of people, can a group of people set world peace into action? Also, will everyone always give their best and will world peace ever be obtainable?

"I think it's naive to pray for world peace if we're not going to change the form in which we live." -Godfrey Reggio

When we define the word, "peace", it can take on many different forms of definitions. This quote is talking about world peace, which means to have a world without any conflicts, fighting, or wars. Everyone wishes for world peace but it's just a wish. A wish with no action is as bad as saying something and not doing it. Unless we as humans change our nature of barbaric and violent lifestyle, it is pointless to believe or even wish for something like world peace. If everyone on this planet changed their way of being, then it would be possible for world peace. But there's always the one rotten apple that ruins the bunch. For world peace, it is necessary for every individual to take action.

@Antwon You should elaborate more upon what the deeper meaning of your quote. What part of inner peace enlightens us to a better understanding of ourselves? Maybe it shows that although there is chaos in our lives and everything is all but peaceful, that inside of us is where we may find peace and that we should challenge this world by staying strong through our inner peace.

"It isn't enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn't enough to believe in it. One must work at it."
-Eleanor Roosevelt

We cannot wish for peace to appear with just a mere thought. It's not that simple. A single thought of peace is an incomplete peace. It is not peace because it is not complete. Many people wish to have peace but they lack the two other key traits that make it possible. These traits are belief and hard work. Belief, because we can't establish peace without having our minds set towards it, and hard work, because in order to gain peace, we need to make an effort to establish it within our lives. If more of us talked of peace, truly believed what we said, and then put our beliefs into action, our world would not be filled with a plethora of hate, sorrow, and pain. Instead, we would be satisfied with the lives we would be living and have an endless love towards one another. Until complete peace is settled within our lives and within the lives of those around us, we should keep working towards it and have faith that we might one day achieve it.

@Takahashi- I've noticed that the interpretation of your quote has the same idea as mine. That a wish of peace must come with action. I found it interesting reading about how our typical human nature is filled with so much negativity at times. It's sad to think that peace in our world is, or nearly is, impossible. But man isn't perfect and it is the way of life. We can just hope that our contributions to world peace may spark the hope of others one person at a time.

"There is a wonderful mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life -- happiness, freedom, and peace of mind -- are always attained by giving them to someone else."(Peyton Conway March)- Peace, it seams, is not something one can ask for. A peason can create it, but not for themselves. This quotes describes peace as something that a person has to give to receive, but it's more than that. They say that peace is a state of being that one has to create in the world, a person has to advertise peace and show peace to others so that the world is a peaceful place. The quote tells everyone to be peaceful, show kindness, and always lend a helping hand so that the world can come to peace. A person has to show peace in a community so that it inspires others to do the same. In our lives, that is all we need to do, constantly perpetuate peace. Show kindness, happiness, and peace by helping an old lady cross the street, helping a neighbor move, or just being their for a friend, even greater still, being their for a complete stranger. ---"The rain, it started tappin' on the window near my bed
There was a loophole in my dreamin', so I got out of it
And to my surprise my eyes were wide and already open
Just my nightstand and my dresser where those nightmares had just been
So I dressed myself and left then, out into the gray streets
But everything seemed different and completely new to me
The sky, the trees, houses, buildings, even my own body
And each person I encountered, I couldn't wait to meet
And I came upon a doctor who appeared in quite poor health
I said, "There is nothing that I can do for you, you can do for yourself"
He said "Oh yes you can, just hold my hand, I think that would help"
So I sat with him a while then I asked him how he felt
He said, "I think I'm cured, in fact I'm sure"
Thank you stranger, "For your therapeutic smile"

@ Daryl Nakamoto-
Your quote was great and I enjoyed your example. Would the quote not talk about just simply being. Being in existence, invoking no meaning on anything you say, just talking. Then maybe what Buddha meant is that we must step out of our daily lives, we must approach the world, and we must decided to instill the idea of peace in our tones and preach to the with passion something that could be remembered. Not just living life, saying things that you will forget in the next day, and it only takes one of these words of peace to hold out an impact through the thousands of other meaningless words said. That is just another view.

Quote: "PEACE. It does not mean to be in a place where their is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things an still be calm in your heart"

What this quote means is you cant hide from anything that you don't want to be around. You should just go out and face whatever is out there. In my opinion you only live once so don't hide form anything or anyone just be yourself. Also don't be upset all the time for no reason. let everything flow but in a calm and peaceful way. When someone says not to be angry, just breath and stay calm so you wont get your chakras in a knot.

What this quote means is that peace can only be gained by understanding. You can't force it upon yourself or on others. Also, to keep your peace, you have to accomplish it. You can not obtain it. Peace is in everyone and in everything, we just have to dig deeper into ourselves and obtain it.
