American Dream Hits the Skies
By: Marc Takahashi

On December 7, 1903, the ancient dream of flight was realized by two Americans named Orvill Wright and Wilbur Wright, also known as The Wright Brothers, when they built the first engine-powered aircraft and initiated the first successful controlled flight in North Carolina. Using previous inventions of glided flight, the Wright Brothers began what is called an "Aeronautical Innovation".

The brothers first began experimenting with flight in 1896 in their bicycle shop in Ohio. They first created a glider plane in which they experimented with at a beach. The glider glided a record breaking 852 feet over 59 seconds. This breakthrough led the brothers interest in creating an engine powered plane.

In order to create an engine for the plane, they needed one that was light and powerful enough to support the plane. No automobile manufacturers could provide such an engine and it led the brothers to create an engine of their own through long hours and determination and eventually fly the worlds first engine powered airplane.

Man Takes to the Air the "Wright" Way
By Aidan J. Marvick
Two bicycle repairmen from Dayton, Ohio, Wilbur and Orville Wright, made the first controlled flight in their airplane on December 17, 1903, flying for 12 seconds and 120 feet over a rural area in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
The wright brothers were the first ever humans to fly in a controlled aircraft. The wright brothers always had a dream for flight from a young age, but it wasnt till a German aviator died after crashing his glider that they really got interested in designing their own. The German aviator, eventhough he died, proved that flight was possible and the Wright Brothers found his flaws. The Wright Brothers found Kitty Hawk, North Carolina to have the adequet wind conditions for a glider to fly. In these wind conditions the Wright Brothers where able to test wing design and material make for their airplane. After many experiments, the Wright Brothers used and 8 horse power engine that generated 90 pounds of thrust, a balsa wood frame with stretched canvas over it, and abition to send the first man into the air on that faithful day of December 17, 1903, for 12 seconds.
The two brothers ambiton payed off in the end. The successfully flew a plane for over 2 hours on December 31, 1903, but they will always be remembered for that day when they took humanity to the skies. "The airplane stays up because it doesn't have the time to fall,"(Orville Wright).

Lead Paragraph: The Wright Brothers are two inventors who inspired the design of the modern airplane. During their inventing process the Brothers had many failures. Some things that they tried to fly would literately crash and burn. The Wright Brothers began their inventing while in their childhood, but reached their goal in 1903. The skilled Brothers grew up in North Carolina, United States and lived there thier entire lives. The Wright Brothers invented the planes so that they could "fly with the birds". Numerous failures the accompanied the Brothers and they considered giving up. In the end they stuck with their goal and became the first successful pilots.
Explanation: The Wright Brothers made their first 'gliders'(huge kite like structures) in Kity Hawk, North Carolina. They made the plane from wood and hardened canvas.

The Wright Brothers decied to create a plane called 'Flyer 1'. This took place at camp "Kitty Hawk' in north Carolina on December 17, 1903.
They sat outside eating breakfast and watching the skies for a long while. They eventually decided to take off so they wouldnt miss Christmas in Dayton. Once the third try was amongst them, the left wing caught a gust of wind and eventually Orville leveled the plane. the Flyer was almost 800 feet out from the launching rail then the front elevator was broken on landing. Even thought the Flyer brotke on landing, the sent a telegram to their father 'Bishop milton Wright' letting him know of their success.

Wright Brothers make history

By: Marissa Bryant-Manago

The Wright brothers, Wilbur and Orville, were bike mechanics who ended up changing the world. From 1899 to 1905 Wilbur and Orville Wright organized an aeronautical research and experimentation program that was responsible for the first successful airplane. In the 1890's the Wright brothers collected reference material from the Smithsonian and other sources. They learned, to their surprise, that little progress was made in aeronautics before 1800.Before then only few scientists or mechanics thought it was reasonable. On December 17, 1903 the Wright brothers conducted four brief flights at Kitty Hawk. For the Wright brothers to successfully market their 1903 Flyer, they had to prove that it could do more than fly short, straight-line flights, they had to demonstrate that it could fly over more terrain and turn. In 1904 through 1905 the Wright bothers adjusted their design with two more aircrafts.

Flying Machine makes History
By:Cortney Heiss

The Wright Brothers are famous for their nautical contraptions and influential ideas.Today on December 17,1903 the Wright brothers' accomplished a nearly impossible task, that would require the strength and stamina of a professional athlete. They flew the first flying machine with skill and uncanny precision, later to be digested as "an impossible feat." Later today, at the Kitty Hawk Weather Bureau, Orvelle and Wilbur sent a telegram home to Dayton saying,"SUCCESS FOUR FLIGHTS THURSDAY MORNING ALL AGAINST TWENTY ONE MILE WIND STARTED FROM LEVEL WITH ENGINE POWER ALONE AVERAGE SPEED THROUGH AIR THIRTY ONE MILES LONGEST 57 SECONDS INFORM PRESS HOME CHRISTMAS. OREVELLE WRIGHT." The Wright brothers' decided the world needed a "pick me up" and flew the invention, that was an "iffy" idea to begin with. Orvelle and Wilbur are truely the inspiration for the inventions of today. After this day, let it be known that we will forever be interconnected and the divisions of yesterday are no longer in effect by today. This astronomical feat done by none other than The Wright Brothers'.

First Success To Soar!
By: Cory Yamagata

Two young American brothers born in Dayton Ohio would set flight in 1903 and set the foundation of aviation. Their dreams to soar to success had been conquered as this tremedous feat to defy gravity was achieved. The 120 feet covered by their first flight would last only 12 seconds but would start a spark in history that would remain eternal.

It was on December 17, 1903 on the wind-swept beach of North Carolina that Orville and Wilbur Wright would take flight. Only starting in a bycicle shop where they where born and raised their plans began as gentle glider but soon evovled into a roaring engine. Their continuous success led to greater engineering and engraved their names into the wings of history. 120 feet in 12 seconds to 852 in 59 their expereience as the first aviators began to take more than its first flight.

Lead Paragraph:
On December 17, 1903 william and Orvis Wright invented the Wright Flyer, the first engine powered, controlled flight. The two Brothers had made the discovery in their home town Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. After much hardwork through ideas and expirements it all finally payed off.

Explanation:
Before the wright brothers' success in making the first engine powered control flight they focused more on gliding rather than engine power. Through the brothers expirement they first found that they could use gliding power to keep them in the air. When they realized that they wanted to stay in the air longer they next pursued engine flight. When they found no one could produce an engine light enough to fulfill the wright brothers needs they built and designed their own. Their work proved successful on December 17, 1903 when they forever changed the course of history by flying the first engine powered airplane into the sky.

The Wright Brothers
By Montserrat Cortes

Orville and Wilbur Wright were credited with ineventing and building the first airplane on December 17, 1903. From a young age, the Wright brothers were interested in anything that flew and wanted to build something on their own. When they were young, their father brought home a toy helicopter. The brothers played with it until it broke, and then built their own. They later said that it was the toy helicopter that sparked their interest in flying.

The Writght Brothers were the first to build fixed aircraft control which made controlled flight possible.
The Wright brothers were bycycle retailers and manufacturers who were very innovative.
Their first controlled flight was in December 17, 1903 two years later they continued their machine and created the first practical winged aircraft.
The first Flight took place in their hometown in Dayton, Ohio.
In 1899 Wilbur Wright Built a Bycycle Glider which was a Bicycle with a wing on it. They also were famous for building Gliders.
They Made the Aircraft using Gears that would adjust the wing of the glider to glide with the direction of the wind.
The Wright Brothers reached extraordinary feats with their invention and opened a new door to advance reasearch and technology.

"Wright Brothers Create the First Engine Powered Aircraft"

After months of repairs and bad weaher, Orville Wright lifted off the ground of Kill Devil Hill at Kitty Hawk and flew 120ft before stalling and skidding onto the ground.
Testing of their engine began on November 5th with poor results. The engines ran roughly and not as expected. The vibraions from the engine caused damage to the propeller shaft. On November 28th they got a newly repaired engine and once again the propeller shafts cracked. Orville traveled to Dayton and returned on December 11th when repairs were done. On December 17, 1903, after many trial and error, Orville Wrigth took off and flew 120ft before hitting the ground.
As the men were carrying the plane back to its starting point—ready for another try—a sudden gust of wind grabbed one wing and lifted it up. One of the life saving crew, John T. Daniels, tried to seize the spars, but could not. The machine turned over on him. Fortunately, he was not seriously hurt, but the plane was destroyed. It had accomplished a milestone, but would never fly again. The brothers would ship the remains home to Dayton.

The Wright Brothers were the first to experimentaly invent a inspriging breakthrough and feat in human engineering history by creating the first airplane. Their names were Orville and Wilbur Wright and they were brothers. Their invention was of a three-axis control , this allowed a pilot to steer and naviagte the plane. This amazing feat of engineering happened in December 17, 1903. Ever since they were young they were inspired to build. One interesting moment was when Orville and Wilbur's father brought home a toy helicopter. They became so intrigued by this object they played with it until it broke then they immediately built their own. This simple occurence sparked their interest for building. The Wright Brothers achieved this invention with their dedication and knowledge to their talent.

Reaching the Sky
By: Peyton Taylor

Two American brothers chase a dream towards aviation. A dream made in barely over their 30 years of living would last lifetimes to follow.
Since the dawn of man, people have wanted to fly. As they watched the birds hover above, surely, interested was impalanted and flying was on everybodys' mind. It wasn't until 1000AD, was the first, self-propelled gliding machine was created. As the years passed, several similar aircrafts were created with hinges and later, engines. But it wasn't until the Wright Brothers did the very first, successful flight take place.
The boys in childhood took an early interest with flying when their father gave them a flying toy. In addition to the obvious prestige in making such a historic first, the Wright brothers must also have been motivated by the potential commercial possibilities of powered flight.
With the combined minds of one another and the help of many others, their self-created dream was put to reality on December 17,1903 in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. And their names, Orville and Wilbur Wright, will forever be honored as the first sucessful inventors of a controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flgiht.

The Wright Way to Fly

Orville Wright flew the fist successful airplane on December 17 1903 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. He and his brother Wilbur had been testing and designing contraptions of fight years before this success, they desired to fly like a bird, and wouldn’t give up until that challenge was accomplished. Their machine rose by itself, flew at a constant speed, and landed without any damage. The flight lasted for 12 seconds; the distance flown was 120 feet. Later that day the airplane was flown three more times, Orville and his brother Wilbur alternated as pilots. Wilbur flew the longest flight; his lasted 59 seconds and covered 852 feet.

The Wright Brothers defy gravity
By Rico Granger
On December, 17, 1903, on a sandy beach in North Carolina, history was made when Orville and Wilbur Wright took to the skies in the first powered flying machine. The brothers chose to perform the feat at the beach at Kitty Hawk because of its consistent winds that improved the lift of their invention. Prior to this event, the Wright brothers had perfected the flight of the glider after over 700 successful flights. Now was the time to change history.
This famous flight took place 20 feet above Kitty Hawk over a duration of 12 seconds and a distance of 120 feet. Three more flights where performed that day, one of which lasted 59 seconds and covered a distance of 852 feet. the Wright Brothers began with a bicycle shop and transitioned into the art of flight in 1896. After the success of the glider, the brothers began construction on an engine for their flying machine. "When we got up, a wind of between 20 and 25 miles was blowing from the north." Commented Orville Wright on the prsitine weather on the morning of December 17th. At about 10:30 that morning Orville prepared himself to fly through history.

The First "Wright" Flight
By: Zachary Kaneshiro

The Wright brothers made the first engine-powered, sustained flight on December 17, 1903 at Kitty Hawk. In precious years the brothers had master gliding and had then wanted to move on to powered flight. At around 10:35 on a windy Dcebmer day, history was made as the first engine-powered flight was made.
The Wright brothers exploration with filght started in 1896 in the brothers bicycle in Dayton, Ohio. They designed and built hundreds of successful gliders and made over 700 flights with those gliders. Once the brothers perfected gliding, they moved on to engine-powered flight. Upone investigation, there were no engines ligt enough and strong enough for the plane. The brothers then designed their own engine and put it into their newly built plane. The first flight made by Orville Wright and lasted for 12 seconds over a distance of 120 ft.

More Than Just Gliding
By: Keahi Delovio
As young engineers from Dayton, Ohio, Orville and Wilber Wright did the impossible.
On December 17, 1903 the Orville and Wilber, also known as the wright brothers did what know one
could do by creating and pioleting the first powered airplane 20 feet above a wind-swept beach in
North Carolina. After years of experimentation in their old bicycle shop, doing everthing they could to
accomplished their goal of doing more than gliding, the extrodinary expedition lasted 12 seconds and
covered 120 feet.
The brothers began their experimentation in flight in 1896 They selected the beach at Kitty
Hawk as their proving ground because of the constant wind that added lift to their craft. In
1902 they came to the beach with their glider and made more than 700 successful flights but they
wanted to do more than just gliding, and with this goal in mind they set out to do the impossible.
No automobile manufacturer could supply an engine both light enough and powerful enough for their
needs. So they designed and built their own. All of their hard work, experimentation and innovation
came together that December day as they took to the sky and forever changed the course of history.
“At the time of its sidling it had raised to a height of probably 12 to 14 feet.” Wrote Orville in his diary
as they final completed their long-term dream.

Never has flight been sucessfully accomplished until 1903, when two American brothers by the name or Orvill Wright and Wilbur Wright (also known as the Wright brothers) built the first ever sucessful airplane on December 17, 1903 in North Carolina. The Brothers believed that by obtaining techniques used by a bird, they could control the shape and portion of the wingto gain flight.

In the next three years following, the brothers continued work on series of gliders, which would be flown unmanned and in piloted flights. They recognized that controlof the flying aircraft would be opne of the hardest and crucial problem to solve.

After months of studying propellers and how they work the Wright brothers then further designed a motor that came to be known as the Flyer.
